During a recent appearance on the Squawk Box program, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi revealed that the passenger transportation giant is considering Bitcoin as an alternative payment method:
“Just as we accept all types of local currency, we will consider cryptocurrency or bitcoin for transactions. It’s good for business, for our drivers and customers. «
«It was a conversation that happened that has been quickly dismissed. We’re going to keep our cash safe. We’re not in the speculation business,» says @dkhos on whether he’s considering adding #bitcoin to $UBER‘s balance sheet. — Squawk Box (@SquawkCNBC) February 11, 2021
At the same time, Khosrowshahi strongly rejected the idea of including cryptocurrency in the company’s reserves, considering it a speculative game:
“We had a conversation on this topic, but we quickly abandoned this idea. We prefer to keep our money safe and do not seek to speculate. «
Anthony Pompliano of Morgan Creek Digital sarcastically commented on the executive’s words, saying that Uber simply does not have a return on investment in cryptocurrency.
Uber doesn’t have profits to invest in Bitcoin.
