Los Angeles-based real estate agency Caruso has partnered with the Gemini cryptocurrency exchange to accept bitcoins in residential and commercial transactions.
On top of that, the company has poured one percent of its Treasury reserves into the largest cryptocurrency as a hedge against inflation.
Caruso’s long list of tenants includes Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
The electric car maker sells its vehicles at Americana at Brand, a major shopping and entertainment center in Glendale.
Despite the fact that Caruso has never discussed Bitcoin payments with the eccentric entrepreneur, it is believed that Musk may be the very first tenant to pay rent in cryptocurrency:
“I didn’t tell Elon about this, but he may be a trailblazer who paid rent in bitcoin ,” said company founder and CEO Rick Caruso.
He also added that in the future, bitcoin and cryptocurrencies will play an important role:
“I believe that Bitcoin and cryptocurrency will play an important role in our collective future, and working with Gemini will now bring unparalleled experiences and innovative technologies that will add real value to our guest service.”
In an interview with CNBC’s Power Lunch, the billionaire stated that the company’s interaction with Bitcoin is by no means temporary:
“This is not about the next year or five years. We are looking forward to the next decade. “
In addition to providing its customers with the opportunity to pay rent using the largest cryptocurrency, Caruso plans to introduce rewards using the blockchain:
“Our loyalty program, which I represent with Gemini and the Winklevoss, is that you will earn coins. You will earn cryptocurrency. “
