In February of this year, miners were in for an unpleasant surprise from Nvidia. The graphics card maker has decided to grapple with a shortage of graphics cards that doesn’t allow gamers to get to the new RTX 3000 series.
To do this, the company’s employees specifically limited the performance of the RTX 3060 when mining Ethereum. However, now it has ceased to be an obstacle.
The owners of new video cards from China have found a way to unlock the full potential of the new product. Let’s talk about the situation in more detail.
Why RTX 3060 has mining problems
To begin with, let’s recall the reasons for the resulting deficit. First of all, the representatives of the Nvidia RTX 3000 line turned out to be powerful, that is, their performance guaranteed good results when mining cryptocurrencies. At the same time, Ethereum has grown significantly in price over the past few months, making it one of the most profitable coins for mining.
As a result, representatives of the cryptocurrency industry began to buy new video cards and use them, among other things, for mining ETH. The lesson turned out to be massive: today, almost 24 thousand people are mining Ethereum on the 2Miners mining pool.
Miners on the 2Miners pool
At the same time, back in November 2020, the total number of miners in the pool was 11 thousand units.
And here is a graph of the network hashrate, that is, the total computing power of the equipment in it. The indicator is updating highs and is not going to stop. This means that people are really connecting more and more devices to the extraction of Ethereum blocks.
Ethereum network hashrate
As a result, new video cards disappeared from the shelves, and the price of the remaining devices increased significantly. Therefore, the manufacturer decided to try to fix the problem.
To do this, the company’s employees limited the performance of the Nvidia RTX 3060. If they started mining Ethereum on a video card, it reduced the computing power by about half. At the start of ETH mining, the video card produced 41.5 MH / s, but after a minute the figure dropped to 24-26 MH / s.
At the end of the material on Nvidia’s actions, we suggested that in the near future miners will start using non-original software for mining ETH on RTX 3060, that is, the problem of the shortage of restrictions will not be solved. It looks like it happened.
Bypassing RTX 3060 Mining Limitations
According to new data, miners from China managed to bypass the restrictions from Nvidia for the RTX 3060 video card. According to WCCFtech, a screenshot has appeared on the network showing a farm of eight new video cards working without restrictions. Each device produces about 45 MH / s on the Ethash algorithm, and the total hash rate is 362.75 MH / s.

The source clarifies that a special mod helped to get rid of the restrictions. The performance of the latter is confirmed by Vietnamese miners: according to their information, the RTX 3060 can issue up to 50 MH / s when mining Ethereum.
In this regard, experts suggest that now miners will start hunting for the Nvidia RTX 3060. Still, the video cards of this model provide a hash rate at the RTX 3060 Ti level and close to that of the RTX 3070, but their power consumption is much lower. And this makes them attractive in the eyes of cryptocurrency mining lovers.
Nvidia RTX 3060 profitability when mining Ethereum
We checked Nvidia RTX 3060 ETH mining profitability without hashrate limits using the 2CryptoCalc calculator. Today, with a performance of 45 MH / s, a graphics card can bring in more than $ 4 per day on Ethereum, excluding electricity costs.
RTX 3060 Ethereum Mining Profitability
We recommend that you read the article on overclocking Nvidia and AMD video cards. Inside there are recommendations, optimal parameters and other important details.
This means that for a month, income will surely exceed the level of $ 100. With such indicators, the payback of the video card will take place quite quickly.
Naturally, even eight RTX 3060s will not be enough for effective solo mining, so in this case it will be safer to join the Ethereum PPLNS pool from 2Miners.
We believe Nvidia’s plan to tackle the deficit has failed. The miners managed to bypass the protection of the video card, which, according to the statements of the company’s employees, was supposed to be “impenetrable”. Obviously, this news motivates miners to create new mods, and as a result, the RTX 3060 will become as popular in mining as other new products.
This means that the situation on the market will not change yet. Getting new video cards will be just as difficult, and the cost of models on the shelves will be much higher than recommended.
